The Dometic CH5310P is a single-lever top-mount binnacle control combining throttle and shift function in one handle. Classic binnacle styling suits a wide range of helm installations. The dual-function lever controls both throttle and gear selection through a single cable connection, keeping the helm clean and the operation intuitive. A built-in neutral safety switch prevents accidental starting in gear, and the engine warm-up feature lets you bring the engine to operating temperature in neutral before engaging the drive.
This model features longer shift travel than earlier MT-3 controls, which improves cable compatibility for certain MerCruiser sterndrive applications and installations with longer cable runs or multiple bends.
Confirm cable type, engine manufacturer shift-and-throttle cable requirements, and helm cutout dimensions before ordering.
Use the correct cable type for your engine and cable run. Cable length and routing must be confirmed for the specific installation.
What is the difference between a dual-function lever and separate throttle and shift levers?
A dual-function lever combines throttle and shift into a single handle. Pushing forward shifts into forward gear and advances throttle simultaneously; pulling back shifts into reverse. Separate-lever systems control throttle and shift independently, which some commercial or twin-engine applications require.
Why does this model have longer shift travel?
Longer shift travel was added to improve compatibility with certain MerCruiser sterndrive shift systems and to provide better cable actuation in installations with long cable runs or multiple routing bends. If earlier MT-3 controls produced incomplete shifts in your application, this model is worth confirming against the installation specifications.
Can I use 4300/43 cables instead of 3300/33C?
The CH5310P in single-lever configuration supports both 3300/33C and 4300/43 type cables. In dual-lever configurations, only 3300/33C cables are supported. Confirm the cable type required by your engine before purchasing cable.
Does this control work with twin-engine installations?
This is a single-station, single-engine control. Twin-engine installations require a dual-lever control or two separate single-lever units. Contact Dometic or your dealer for multi-engine configuration options.
The CH5310P is the right choice for single-engine helm upgrades or replacements where a clean binnacle look and reliable single-lever operation are the priority. The most common issue is cable compatibility customers sometimes order 4300/43 cables expecting full compatibility, but that cable type only works in the single-lever configuration. Confirm the cable type and run length before ordering cables. If the previous control produced sloppy or incomplete shifts, the extended shift travel on this model is a genuine improvement, particularly on MerCruiser sterndrive applications.
