Unlike traditional tapered wooden plugs which are rigid and only fit a specific hole size the Sta-Plugs soft foam cone adapts to irregular shapes and can be cut down for smaller openings, making it far more versatile in a real emergency. Its particularly effective for sealing around damaged thru-hull fittings and seacocks where a rigid plug wont seat properly. Best practice is to keep at least one Sta-Plug tied or mounted near each thru-hull on the vessel so its immediately accessible if a fitting fails.
