The GPSMAP 79sc is a rugged, floating, waterproof handheld GPS chartplotter built for reliable marine navigation. Preloaded with BlueChart g3 coastal charts for North America, it combines multi-constellation satellite support, a built-in electronic compass, and barometric altimeter in a compact, easy-to-use package ready to navigate right out of the box.
Best Use Case: Ideal as a primary navigator on small powerboats, tenders, kayaks, and dinghies where a fixed-mount chartplotter is impractical. Also an excellent backup or emergency navigator on larger vessels. The floating, waterproof design and AA battery operation make it particularly well-suited for open boats and offshore safety kits where power reliability matters. BlueChart g3 preloaded charts mean it is ready for coastal North American waters immediately no chart cards required for most users.
Installation Notes: No permanent installation required operates as a portable handheld. Optional bracket mount available for helm use. Powered by two AA batteries (not included) or via optional 12V DC power/data cable. No sonar capability navigation only.
Compatibility: NMEA 0183 output compatible with autopilots, VHF radios, and instruments that accept NMEA 0183 data. Not NMEA 2000 compatible. Supports microSD card for optional chart expansion. Compatible with optional Garmin carrying cases, mounting brackets, and power cables.
